The Passing of Scully

Yesterday at midnight, I had to put Scully down.  She has had medical problems for a while now and it was time.  It was very sad, but I know it was the right thing to do.

I bought Scully from the Ellensburg Pet Store in October 1999.  I was living by myself at college and it was getting lonely.  So, when I saw her in the window and her pretty color, I had to have her.  It probably wasn't the best decision for her.  Since I was in college, I moved her around lot which really stressed her out.  That might have been when her aggression problems started.  In 2002, I moved her to Texas.  She was diagnosed with obesity and put on a strict diet.  I think her eating disorder lead to all the medical problems later in life.  In 2009 she was diagnosed with kidney failure.  On December 11th, she was having breathing problems so I brought her to the Denton Animal ER.  The vet said she had fluid between her lungs and her body wall.  She gave me the options but putting her down seemed like the best one.  I signed the order at midnight on December 12th.  David and I held her little paw when the vet injected her.  We buried her in the back yard.

Even though Scully had a lot of faults, she was a great cat.  She was my first cat and the first pet of my own.  I will miss her everyday.

Thanksgiving

We had our first Thanksgiving in Krugerville this year!  The whole Nieman/Farris fam was there.  I attempted to decorate.  I went back to Bed Bath and Beyond 3 times to get the right size tablecloth.  Everyone got to meet our new addition, Coleman.  We has an array of food from chicken to turkey to some vegan thing.  For dessert we had one of Elbert's chocolate pecan pies.  It was to die for!  Hopefully we can do it again next year!

Xmas 2009

This was a very different Christmas this year. I had to close on Christmas Eve at the rec center. That is no big deal because we close at 5 PM. But it started to snow on my way in to work and I was sick. That means it could only get worse from there. Texas drivers aren't the best in this weather. I only worked 4 hours before I was back out on the street trying to come home. I stopped at the apartment to pick up the decoration box that we forgot to move. Santa can't come if there are no stockings hung! It took me 2 hours in all to get home. Good thing I was smart enough to start a crock pot meal before I went to work. We pretty much just ate and went to bed.

When we woke up in the morning, we had at least an inch of snow and ice on the ground. A White Christmas! Due to my sickness and the weather we had to cancel all family plans. David and I exchanged stocking stuffers. I got him an American flag and he got me work gloves. My "real" present was a 10 inch digital picture frame. It's super awesome. I got him so car part about a month ago from eBay. We tried to take Scully out in the snow. She was not into it. After a leftovers lunch, we went to David's work, then back to the apartment. We tried going to the grocery store for charcoal we had forgotten. And all of them were closed. What a mess! But we found it at a 7-11.

It was a good Christmas, but next year will be merrier!

No Xmas lights this year. Maybe next time.

The Big Move

Well, the big moved has finally happened. David and I are now residents of Krugerville, Texas!

We started off on Saturday morning with David being as sick as a dog! I got us breakfast and Sandy and Bobby came over to help move boxes. I felt so disorganized. The 1st load was in our cars. Sandy helped us moved so many little boxes. After the 1st load, Sandy had to leave. Bobby and I returned to the apartment with Jenny and Jared who came fresh from their honeymoon! When we got there, Tim and Melissa were ready to help. We really had an all-star crew. We loaded up a majority of the furniture and the rest of the boxes. After we unloaded those, we were so dead tired. We crashed at the Prairie House restaurant in Cross Roads.

Sunday morning we were right back at it. Bobby, Melissa and Tim helped me clear out the apartment. Tim took down the ceiling fan single-handedly. David and his friends, John and Aaron, cleared out some of the heavy stuff from the garage.

Scully is very nervous in the house still. David was convinced the house was haunted the first night we slept there. He said Scully was looking at something that wasn't there, just like in the Animal Planet show, "The Haunted." I think she is just a spaz. She has already crapped on the new carpet. David was so happy about that. Scully hangs out in our room and doesn't explore the other side of the house. Which is lame because I want her new cat box spot to be in the laundry room.

We are still emptying boxes and making adjustments. We painted and got new carpet. We took all the doors off. We are adjusting to the septic and aerobic systems. My 1st shower there was worse than any one I took at Camp Arrowhead. It will be nice when we have all our appliances in and can stop eating out. And now after the move is over, I am the one who is sick!

I know we are going to love it here!

Thanksgiving

I was lucky enough to have my parents come to me for Thanksgiving! They arrived the day we closed on our house. So I was able to put them to work the next day. The pictures I took of them cleaning are on the camera that David took river rafting pictures with last summer. So that means we will never see them.

On Thanksgiving, I made a reservation at Lawry's. None of us had been there before. They were having a Thanksgiving special. Tommie, Bobby, Tim, and Melissa met us there. The food was really good. I even liked the stuffing. (I only like my mom's stuffing.) We had turkey, potatoes, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding, sour dough bread and lots of asparagus. Some people go Prime Rib as well. We went home after that and had pecan pie, pumpkin pie, and Elbert's banana nut pie. Yummy, as usual!

We had to break out on the party poppers at the end. It isn't an Anderson holiday with a ridiculous picture of people in paper hats. Then we watched a little football and fell asleep early.

Happy 9th Scully!

Scully turns 9 years old today! He birthday present from me was a bath. I hope I never have to do that again! I told Scully to the vet yesterday for shots and teeth cleaning. The vet told me over and over again what a bad cat she was. Don't you think I know that? I had to buy a new carrier for her because it brook at the vet. I should have told them to put her towel inside so it smelled like her. When they finally got her in, I drove home. Since we moved, everything is farther and it takes forever to get anywhere. When we turned onto my street, she started screaming. And right before I turned into the apartment complex, I smelt it. Scully peed in her cage. Thank God it didn't get on my car seats! When I finally got her in the apartment, I tried to lock her in the bathroom. I got her wiped down with a wet towel and then she escaped! She climbed into my box spring under the mattress. I had to beat the bed with a broom for her to come out. I locked her in the bathroom again and waited for David to come home. It was a 2 person job to hold her down and wash her with Patene shampoo. We had to wear heavy leather gloves. Good thing they cut her fingernails. I should have taken pictures of her, but the whole thing was so stressful. When we finished, I combed her and feed her some wet food. Wet food is always a treat because she is on a diet. Hopefully her 10th birthday will be a little bit mellower.

Christmas At Home

David and I had a mini Christmas last week before we left for Florida. We had muffins and exchanged presents. I got him the new iPod nano with his name engraved on the back. I think is the best thing that ever happened to him. It has been attached to his ears ever since. He got me some portable speakers for my iPod nano. They have great sound. When we got back from Florida, we had a quick Olive Garden Christmas with David's parents. His mother got us a really nice framed picture of ourselves. they got Scully some really fun toys. She destroyed them in about 5 minutes.

Birthday Kitty

July 1st was Scully's 7th birthday. She is now a senior cat. Which means nothing has changed except her vet costs. Can you believe they wanted $525 to get her teeth cleaned?! We had a mellow day, she didn't want anything fancy. We hung out on the balcony. I let her roam around the parking lot. Then we cuddled on the couch and watched the new version of The Hills Have Eyes. She thought Emily de Ravin's performance could have been better. I concur. She had Whiskas for dinner, it's a special treat for someone on prescription food. Here are some pics of my #1 baby on her special day.
