Barbara L. Anderson August 16, 1929 – May 25, 2010

I just got back from my Grandma, Barbara Anderson's, funeral.  It was a very sad occasion, but it was nice to see family I never see.  I got some happy news, my cousin Chelsea Greene, is pregnant and my cousin, Venessa Bartholomew, is moving to Texas.  Just like me, she isn't from Texas, but she got there as fast as she could.  So, as my tribute to Grandma, I am just going to copy her flyer from the funeral.  Whoever wrote it (I am guessing my aunts) said it best.

Barbara Ann Lindley was born in Chicago, IL, on August 16, 1929, to Avalon and James Lindley. She spent her childhood years in Chicago. During her teen years she was involved in the Eastern Star’s Rainbow Girls and at 16 became a Worthy Advisor.

She is the proud mother of six children: Avalon Braun of Eugene, OR; Thomas Alton of Las Vegas, NV; Nancy Sanchagrin of Orlando, FL; Susan Borchini of Kissimmee, FL; James Anderson of Jacksonville, FL; and Barbara Nixon of Lakeland, FL. Barbara had 13 grandchildren ranging in age from 10 to 34 and three great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Kathleen Lee, who died in 1964 from a premature birth.

Throughout her life, Barbara was involved in volunteer activities. In her younger years she was President of the P.T.A., our Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, President of the local Garden Club, and she also started a Mother’s Club in Niagara Falls, NY. She was a Census Taker in 1960 and with her earnings bought camping equipment that started a lifelong love for camping in the Adirondack Mountains, yearly trips to Groton State Park in Vermont and then in Arkansas. Some of our fondest memories were those camping trips.

In Livermore Falls, Maine, Barbara was a Baptist Youth Fellowship Leader, Vacation Bible School teacher and a Deaconess at the First Baptist Church. She also volunteered with the Red Cross.

In her later years, Barbara moved to Atlanta and became involved with Meals on Wheels, Northside Hospital Auxiliary (Escort Service), and the Crafty Ladies Craft Group at Christ the King Lutheran Church.

Not long after moving to Atlanta she and her daughter Barbara worked in marketing research together. Her last position was a medical records clerk at the Hug Center/Healthfield in Atlanta. She was first person to retire from the Hug Center.

Barbara had a love for cooking and flowers. You could always find her whipping up a new recipe. She loved to travel and did a lot in her retirement years.

Barbara was well loved by her family and friends and all who knew her. Her sense of humor kept everyone in stitches. She had a lifetime of service to her community and was always willing to lend a helping hand. She will missed by all.

She wanted to make sure that all her friends knew how much she appreciated all the wonderful support she received during her three-year struggle with lung cancer. Her family extends a tremendous sense of gratitude for the kindnesses shown during her illness. With your support, Barbara was given the highest quality of care and love during her last days. Know that she and her family will always be thankful to you all.

Barbara died on May 25, 2010, at the age of 80.

Wedding Weekend: Friday

Friday morning was the rehearsal at the Bingham House. My dad came over to our apartment in the morning and helped us lug everything down the stairs. It wasn't raining anymore, but it was really humid. My dad was sweating so bad! We were a little late to rehearsal, but it worked out okay. We set up the reception hall. We were able to practice outside on the lawn because it wasn't too muddy. But we practiced inside too just in case.

We had lunch at Poppy's Garden Cafe in McKinney. We had to eat inside the banquet room. It was a little dark. We ate flat iron steak and rosemary chicken, whipped potatoes, and mixed veggies. Dessert was flourless choclate cake and strawberry cheese cake. All of it was delicious. David and I handed out our thank you gifts. David gave his groommens their favorite liquor. I gave my bridemaids tote bags witht heir names embroidered and some bath stuff.

After lunch, we all went our separate ways. My family went back to the hotel and hung out in my sister's room. I tried to get them to go bowling again, but no one was into it. Bummer. It started to really storm outside. There was thunder and lightning. I knew we would not be able to do the wedding outside at that point. We ate at the Cheesecake factory. David was coming to eat with us from home. Halfway there he got a flat tire. His spare was flat too. His brother, John, had to go pick him up. He never made it to dinner. I went home right after to get enough sleep for the wedding the next day.

Chelsea's Wedding

I took so many pictures when we went to North Carolina, it took me forever to get them on here. Beware, they are in reverse order. I don't know what I was thinking...

My cousin, Chelsea, got married in Duck, North Carolina on 10/25/08. David and I flew in on Thursday night. We met my parents and sister at the Norfolk Virginia airport. Then we drove a hour and a half to the Kill Devil Hills Days Inn. It was pretty awesome actually. We rented a cottage on the beach. area of North Carolina, called the Outer Banks, is very touristy in the summer. We went there in the off season, so it was empty. I like it better that way.

On Friday, we went to visit the Wright Brothers Memorial and the Lost Colony of Roanoke. The weather was windy and rainy. It was much colder than I thought it would be. That Friday night was the rehearsal dinner, where we finally got to meet Scott. He seemed like a cool guy, but I only got to talk to him for a little while.

Saturday started off bad. David was really sick. I thought he wasn't going to be able to make it to the wedding. But around lunch time his sickness wore off. We went to the ceremony which was on the beach in Duck. The weather almost didn't cooperate. But I once heard that it was good luck if it rained on your wedding day. After the ceremony, we got some bad information and missed the family picture. I am still upset about. Can you tell? Dinner, dancing, and skateboarding was to follow at Bob's house. It was a 3-story house with a party tent set up in the driveway and an empty pool in the back. The food was awesome! There was these crab-stuffed mushrooms that I could have eaten a whole plate of. The Hershey Bar cake was so good too. They had an open bar and their favor was a pale ale that had their picture on it. The waitress cleaned mine up before I could save it. There wasn't much skateboarding because of the weather, but I got to see a little bit. After all the traditional wedding stuff, the limbo started! My sister disgraced the family again by losing to my cousin, Stacey. Kate just needs to focus more on her training. She even ended up with a boo-boo on her foot.

Sunday we left in the afternoon. I hope people remembered we were there, because there is no official photographic record. I will certainly remember it!
