An Open Letter to Everyone I Have Played Softball With

Dearest Softball Players,

I am sad to announce my retirement as manager of the Rec’n Crew softball team at the end of the Summer season. A lot of you already knew I was going to take a break for the Fall because of the wedding. I will be willing to sub once in a while, but my time as manger has ended. It’s just time.

If anyone would like to volunteer to be manager of the team, I would gladly turn over the rest of the money and the game balls. Please let me know if you are interested. Registration for the Fall season has all ready started.

Being manager of this team since Fall 2004 has been great. I have learned a lot about the way leagues are run and the game of softball. I loved getting to know each of you and being there for all of your life changes. I hope that we can finish out this season on a high note and that we all keep in touch. Thanks for 5 great years!

Sincerely,
Sara J. Anderson

Softball Babies

Two ladies on my softball team recently had babies. Welcome Averi Michelle Scruggs and Jacie Marie Patterson! Averi was born to Michelle and Sean Scruggs on 8/25/08. She was 6 pounds 8 ounces and 19 inches long. Jacie was born to Jennifer and Jermaine Patterson on 9/9/08. She was 6 pounds 11 ounces and 17.75 inches long. She joins her older brothers Jalen and Jordan.

These two will make a great addition to the Rec'n Crew softball team in 2023!

Fall Ball 2007

It ain't over yet! We have one more game next week at 9 PM on Field 9. All are invited. So far this fall, we have a 3 - 4 record. I wish I would have kept the score for the whole year. We decided to skip the Winter season this year. Anyway, I decided to take pictures at this game because it was early and I thought I would have more light. Not so much... I had to doctor a few pictures. They aren't that great of quality.

In this game, we played the One Hit Wonders on Field 8 of Heritage Yards in Plano. They had beat us the last time we played them. But they had the worst record in our league. Everyone hit very well. The score was 14 - 9. Sean Scruggs had an in-the-park home run! Dirk Rochette had a "hold your breath" slide into 2nd base. It was a very fun game.

Walking off the field after another victory. Why am I so cheesey?

You Gotta Love This Game!

Last night was our first softball game of the Spring season. The Thursday night team is in the Co Ed AA league. It is one step up in competition from what we usually play. I was nervous because I assumed these other teams mean business. We played a team called Johnson Turf. Their t-shirts were last year's Fall Season Championship shirts with numbers on the back. Very clever. We held them at 1 - 1 for the whole game until the last inning where they scored 5 runs. It was a great defensive game. I had a wonderful play at home where the runner ran to the wrong base and I said, "she's out!" Good times. I made it on base once with a fielder's choice. The thing that really mad be mad at the game, though, was one female play threw her bat at me 3 times. Not on purpse, but because she didn't know any better. That is not the kind of player I thought would be in Co Ed AA. The first time it hit the ground next to me and just scared me. The second time it hit across my body, but didn't hurt. The third time it hit me right on the big toe. It hurt so bad. I think my messed up nail protected my toe though. And the ump didn't called her out. I actually said something to him about it too. But it didn't do any good. When umpires make up their mind there is no changing it. Arguing is pointless.

Next week, we play on Tuesday in the Co Ed A league on Field 7. We play Freak Show. Technically, in the past, they have beaten us twice. One time was because of a forfeit. But we beat them in a scrimmage. I remember them being a fun team. Come watch!

Trophy & Shirts

Here are some pics of the trophy and shirts we got for being so awesome in softball. The shirt pic isn't that great, but I am on a time crunch.

So big I don't know what to do with it!

For All The Marbles...

The game on Tuesday was pretty dramatic. We played Frank's Sports Grill, the only team that has beat us in this Richardson league. The game was at 6:30 PM. That makes it difficult for people to show up on time. We were the visiting team, I prefer to be home. But they started out walking our team a lot and we scored 6 runs in the first inning. It went back and forth from there, but they never pasted us. I got walked twice. We ended up winning 11 - 7. The next game we had that night forfeited. I have never been on a 1st place, let alone be the manager of one. We got t-shirts for everyone and a trophy for me. It was a great season and a great team. Thanks to all the people who came out. Especially the cheering section! Now we take about a 2 month break until Spring Ball in Plano.

Gotta Love This Game

We decided to go one more round with the Rec'n Crew softball team. There is a winter league in Richardson at Huffhines Park. We added about 7 people to the team and headed south. It's a double header league, which is kinda fun. Last night we won our first 2 games since June! I scored 3 runs. All with the help of being walked, but it still felt good! Because of a rain out last week, on 11/28 we play 3 games in a row. Come check it out!

Defeated Season

Last night was our final game of the Fall season for City of Plano softball. We lost 26 - 7. We actually lost every game this season. At first I was frustrated about losing so much, but then I remembered the reason why I was playing was to have fun. And I did have fun. Everyone on my team is great! We have added some new people to the team for the Winter season. It will be played in Richardson at Huffines Park. Our first game is November 7th. Come on down and see us sometime!

Gearing Up For Another Season

The summer softball season was okay. My team, The Rec'n Crew, ended up with a 2-6 record. That wasn't as good as last year's record of 6-2. We had a lot of bad luck with sickness and bad ump. John got sick and that left me as a manager. I can write down a line up, but other than that I'm no manager. We had to forfeit 2 games. One due to lack of female players, the other Paul got removed for no reason. Tim ended up hurting his shoulder in that same game. But fall season is right around the corner. Things are looking up. We have a few new people on the team. Our schedule should be out in about a week. Come watch us at Heritage Yards in Plano. The games are at 7, 8, or 9 PM.

The Agony of Victory

This blog is for Paul. He suggested I blog my injury for the world to see. This means I have taken 3 for the team. This one is the worst. Last night at the the game against the MCG Aces, an opposing player threw his bat after countless warning from the umps. It hit me square in the knee. The injury was exactly what we needed to run down the clock. We won 7-5. When I got home, it swelled up pretty big, but it looks and feels better today. All I needed was ice. I am going to go get catcher's guards or something.
