Congratulations Camp Arrowhead Task Force
You guys are awesome! They have actually exceeded the amount of money they needed. Currently, they have raised $84,000 to save my childhood resident camp. New Scanner
With my tax return money I bought a new scanner. It is an Epson Perfection V200. My first task to restore all the Polaroid pictures I have. I also bought a program that would allow me to scan oversized documents, like scrapbook pages. Here is my first attempt at stitching. It's not perfect. But I will work on it when I have more patience.

Last Chance To Help Camp Arrohwead
The deadline is approching for decision about the Camp Arrowhead Sale. We need a total of $83,000. If you can spare any money please give to this worthy cause! Here is a letter from Kathleen McDade:
G'day! The Camp Arrowhead business plan is in the process of being finalized for distribution to board members. The board will meet on February 21 at 4:30 p.m. at the council office; this is an open meeting, and anyone is welcome (although you may or may not have an opportunity to speak). The Camp Arrowhead Task Force will make a PowerPoint presentation to the board, and will have experts on timber management and water systems on hand to answer questions before the board votes on whether to keep Camp Arrowhead.
The board had asked us to raise $83,000 to cover operating costs and marketing costs incurred by withdrawing from the auction. As of Friday, we had raised about $72,000! I am writing this letter in support of the best resident camp in the world, Camp Arrowhead in Stevenson, Washington.
Camp Arrowhead kept me going in Girl Scouting when troops in my neighborhood broke up. I entered Camp Arrowhead in the summer 1991. Through the next 10 years, I defined camper progression. I was a camper in Cheesiah, Platter Pilot, C.I.T., Assistant Unit Leader, Unit Leader, and Central Staff. All the experiences there shaped my life and career. A majority of the friends I met there are still close to me, even though I live over 2,000 miles away. Programs and activities done at this camp helped me develop leadership qualities and boost my self-confidence. The rustic nature of the camp also helped me overcome fears and kept me physically fit. It has a natural charm.
My motto has always been, “Camp is my life!” After getting my B.S. in Leisure Services from Central Washington University in 2000, I went on to assist in directing day camps for Evergreen Academy in Bothell, Washington and the City of Plano, Texas. I am currently the Recreation Coordinator for Youth and Adult Programs at Carpenter Park Recreation Center in Plano. I also volunteer with the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas.
Please reconsider selling this camp. It is a great asset to the council. There is no other camp like it in your council. I hope this donation will help in the restoration of the camp. Thank you.

More Arrowhead Updates
The sale has been delayed until March 1st. In the meantime, we need to come up with a lot of money and some other things. I am pretty out of the loop because of being so far away. A few task forces have been set up to help get everything moving. They have a blog too. Check out: Camp Arrowhead at Wind Mountain Task Force Updates. Also, the nonprofit group Friends of Camp Arrowhead is moving along. However, they are not 501 (c) (3) yet, so donations to that group are not tax deductible.
On a sad note, during the Retirement Campout, some people decided to take more than just pictures. Lots of things from camp were pilfered. Here is a note from Calliope (Kathleen McDade) about the theft:
Okay, I'm putting on my former camp director hat now to make a speech. Items are missing from Arrowhead.
I know, some of them were removed by Council staff. I have been assured that the items are safe (although I'm not happy about the flagpole at Home Lake).
Other items apparently disappeared during the Retirement Party/Reunion weekend at the end of October. Missing items include blue tents, at least one large, plastic box of dishes and cooking equipment from a unit house, and several signs.
Needless to say, our CEO, Cynthia Hamilton is not happy about this. But beyond that, even if these items have sentimental value, they do have sentimental value to many of us, not just to you. For instance, unit house signs -- yes, these are very special. The artwork is unique. This artwork was actually used for many years in camp staff manuals as well. It has meaning for many people, and we want the signs to be there when the camp reopens.
Things like tents and kitchen equipment will be essential to the operation of the camp as well.
In short, we need it back. And even if you think you'd like to hold onto it until keeping the camp is final, it would be a show of good faith to just give it back now. We are trying to work as a team with council staff to keep the camp, and having things go missing doesn't help with that. If things were to go bad, I assure you that I and others would work to make sure that items with sentimental or historic value were preserved in some way.
If you have stuff or know where it is, you can return it with no questions asked -- either drop it off in the council's lobby during business hours, marked "Camp Arrowhead", or you can drop it on my front porch.

This was discussed again at the last Task Force meeting, and Cynthia said that if items are not returned, they will have to file a police report. We set a deadline of December 1 for getting the items returned. If you know anyone who might need this information, please pass it along.

Camp Arrowhead Retirement Party
Well, I guess you can't say it was the retirement party just yet. Council decided to hold off on the sale until March 1st. In the meantime, we have to do all the dirty work and raise money and find contracts.
Last weekend, I fly back to Washington to see the camp one last time. I met Ebi and Krypton at the airport. I haven't seen Krypton in 11 years! Was it was like we had never parted. We had so many inside jokes and random things that we both remembered. It was great. After dropping some stuff off at Ebi's house, we went to the grocery store and then to pick up Jinn. I hadn't seen her in 7 years! An hour later, we were at camp. We set our stuff down in Klickitat and walked around to take pictures of all the inner units. We ate dinner at Pietro's Pizza in Hood River, Oregon and were joined by a bunch of people I hadn't seen in forever. We tried to get some Mike's Ice Cream, but they were closed. So we went to Horsefeather's and had a "dirty Girl Scout" drink. When we got back to camp, we lit a fire in the unit house. It was so cozy, I couldn't' stay up while everyone talked.
Breakfast was cereal and sandwiches donated by Starbuck's. Brier and Kirsten work there. Even more people had shown up. Some I didn't know or had only met on Myspace. I felt so old! Once girl said she remembered me when she was in Wa-Nee-Ya. Griffin, Jinn, Ebi, and I decided to go on a hike to all the outer units and the yellow and red trail. Quijibo and her son, Parasite (Josh), joined us for a little bit. We ran into Rogue, her dog, and her new car. We saw everything on Saturday! We hiked for 4 - 5 hours. My feel hurts so bad, but I didn't want to stop. We got back to the Lodge a few hours before dinner. I got to see some old school people and their babies. Gilly, Dodger, Lightning, Loco, Yetti, and Squeak were there. I hopped for dinner and was the foot of Gilly's table. Brier and Kirsten made chili. There was a campfire and flag burning after dinner. Scottie showed up. She was my C.I.T. counselor. Rahsaa tried to record us singing after all everything had died down. I don't' know how well it turned out. There were a few discourteous people (Patch!) who wouldn't shut up while we were taping. Back at Klickitat we talked until I fell asleep. I think Brier was recording on her iPod.
Sunday morning, we did some more hiking so Scottie and Krypton could see the things they'd missed. We ended with lunch in Hood River and actually got some Mike's Ice Cream on it's last day open for the season. Then we drove home.
After we showered, Ebi and I went to find Ace who couldn't make it tot he party. We got to her house just as her brother was dropping her off. We got some Thai food and looked at pictures. It was great to see her too. She was my camp Big Sister.
We just killed time on Monday. We wondered over to Clark College. I didn't have time to see my sister. She had a class or a test or something. I met Krypton in the airport again. We have the same concourse to go home.
My mom told me that the camp was crappy when I went there, she can only imagine what it looks like now. I say it's not crappy, it's rustic. It definitely was not in the disrepair I thought. There was even hot showers! I couldn't take much home from Camp Arrowhead, except for memories. I was able to take a cooper plate back. I made sure I said goodbye in my own way. No one knows the future of the camp right now. I heard we had to raise $100,000 by March 1. I hope it will be around for more people to enjoy.
