Race For The Cure 2009

We had a great time at the Race For The Cure this weekend. This was my 5th race. It was my 3rd as captain of the Plano Cure-saders team. We had 45 people this year. I decided to go with brown and pink t-shirts this year. They are easier to see since everyone is wearing a white t-shirt. We had a "Bling Party" before the race. We all dedicated our shirts to loved ones who have been affected by cancer. I wrote, "Wow Wee! I Miss You Aunt Kathy" on mine. She passed away about 2 years ago from breast cancer.

David and I started out late that day. So we met the team just in time at the rec center. We carpooled over to the race parking garage. Then we met up again at the team photo area. Getting our picture taken was a hot mess. We had 2 photographers fighting over us. We didn't know who to listen too. After we finally got our picture taken, we broke up to start the race. Nastia Liukin, the gymnastist, was there to fire the starting gun. I had this great plan to take a shortcut out because I had somewhere to be at 11 AM. I missed it because I was talking. We made a cut off right before the finish line though. I think the whole race took us an hour and 15 minutes or so. I forgot my watch, so I didn't time it. Thank you to everyone who came with us. I hope to see you again next year.

It's RFTC Time Again!

For the third year in a row, I am captain of the City of Plano Cure-sader's Race for the Cure Team. The race is on 6/6 at the EDS Headquarters in Plano. It's going to be great fun, as usual. Last year, I had 56 people on the team. I am up to 17 right now. Any support you can give me for this even would be greatly appreciated. Contact me if you would like to join the team.

Red, Hot, And Pink!

Saturday, was the Race for the Cure. I was the Team Captain of the City of Plano Cure-saders again. This time I had 56 people on the team. I got sponsored by the Risk Management Department, so I had raffle prizes to give away. It was really great. We finished the race in 1 hour, 13 minutes, and 59 seconds. As you can tell, I walked this year.

Later that night, David and I went out on our friend's boat to Lake Lewisville. There was the Red, Hot, and Blue festival going on. There was a fireworks show. On the way back to the dock, we got pulled over for an inspection. I have never been pulled over in the water before. Turns out we didn't turn a light on that we needed. They let us go.

Race for the Cure 2008

It's the second year for the Plano Cure-saders!  This year, I was able to get the Risk Management Department and the Center for Lifestyle Enhancement to sponsor the team.  They are providing the t-shirts and 5 raffle prizes.  Our first raffle is 4/15!  Please sign up for the team or donate.  Below is the form letter they send out.  Thank you!

Race for the Cure 2007

Yesterday was the North Texas Race for Cure. I decided I wanted some company this year, so I formed a team of City of Plano employees and a few recreation center patrons. The team name was the Plano Cure-saders. There was 30 who signed up. Three ladies were survivors. Aubrie and I designed some t-shirts and Artistic Textile Designs made them for $5 each. We met at Carpenter Park and caravaned over to EDS. Mary brought her dog, Zeke. He is the best dog I've ever met. He's so friendly! They change the route this year so it would start and end at EDS. The course was 5K, which is 3.1 miles. I thought we were going to get rained out to start with. But it held off and it was only about 65 - 70 degrees. We got a team picture taken before the race started. Hopefully that will be up on the Internet soon. They didn't update the site yet. I paid for the chip timing again this year, but I forgot to pick up the chip before the race. They weren't embedded in the bibs like they were last year. I timed it with my watch and I finished in 33 minutes ad 20 seconds. That is another record for me. David tried to hold on with me as much as he could, but he slowed down after 1 mile. He finished in 47 minutes. That is really good, considering he has taken a few years off of working out. I am so proud of him! We had to split pretty quickly after the race so I could get to work. But thank you to everyone who came out and donated to the cause. I appreciate you!

5 Ks

Last night it poured down rain. There was lots of scary thunder and lightning too. So, I thought this morning's MS Walk wasn't going to happen. But when I work up, it was beautiful out. It was about 50 degrees and sunny. Aubrie was supposed to come over around 7 AM, but on the way here she was hit by an uninsured motorist. Lame! So, she couldn't come. I went solo. But the met up with my team, Plano Pflamingos Lending Support (PPLS), in Addison Circle Park. It made of Plano librarians and one lady from police records. I didn't realize that this 5k was not really a race like the Race for the Cure. There was a competitive run before the walk started. But this is actually a walk. I ran anyway; I'm a rule breaker. In about 5 minutes I was leading the pack. I wasn't sure where to go because there wasn't much signage. We ran down Arapaho Road, over the bridge, and back. I actually couldn't find the finish line or I would have finished faster. I finished in 35 minutes and 41 seconds. That is about the time I finished for last year's Race for the Cure. Thank you to Dad, Jay Armstrong, and Jenelle Braun-Monegan who helped me raise $100. I got a shirt for it.

This year's Race for the Cure is just around the corner. Like I said last year, I started a City of Plano team. We are called the Plano Cure-saders. Help Me Name The Team

I am starting a Plano Parks & Recreation Department team for the Race for the Cure in June. I need a good team name. I want to have something that reflects recreation or our initials PARD (pronounced Party), which stands for Parks And Recreation Department. It has to be appropriate, of course. Let me know your suggestions. There are no wrong answers in brainstorming!

Taking A Hike for MS

For the second year, I am involved in Plano's Take A Hike program. We calculate our steps using a pedometer for about 6 months. Whatever person or department has the most wins prizes.
